EGG TREATMENT.

Okay guys, now I am in the working world & I feel  since you are on this journey with me, you must want to know some of the working experiences I have had. One of them being of recent, fresh out of a masters and working in a well known hospitality firm, if you are particularly one who knows of firms building hotels you would know this firm. Disclaimer: I’m not here to slander (for those who know where I worked I just feel that fresh out of university it would be wise to tell you guys that the opportunities in working a firm whilst there, are not always going to be what you expect and there is the possibility you will be treated like an egg. Now the term EGG is something I like to use as of course it’s a newborn and as a egg you can make it and turn into a great chicken or you can make my breakfast in the morning. Haha the point I am making is that as a young budding creative fresh out vowing to enter the design world. The opportunities available will most likely have you doing the nitty gritty load and for some people this is something they don’t mind doing, as to gain experience, maybe looking to save and eventually enjoy life. For those who are super passionate about design like myself, entering this situation was a nightmare. Now I am not saying this will be the case for everyone, yet I must warn that you must take advantage of the early years of your career path. You did not go to university to just do this, so I say if you do find yourself in these situations and you do not see potential for growth personal and financially in some cases, I say try not to reside in that position for too long! By the time you look at it, a few years may have passed. Now of course, this is easier said than done, the industries current situation may find you in this position anyways and I must urge those going into architecture to please find the right firm, should you choose to make it a career path and want to make it a long term avenue. P.S: I’ve left that role now, on to something a lot more creative. So no more Miss Egg for me. Should a new position come, there are some questions I will definitely ask myself and the company too: Is there potential for growth? Speaking with staff, reading reviews helps you decide on this honestly, what you hear from those around you will help you figure out if it’s for you. Obviously don’t take everyone else’s word entirely, use it to process and decide for yourself. What do I want to gain from this? Long or short term goals, it doesn’t matter set them and aim to have them completed. Whether you are using the job for a stepping stone or wanting to learn alone. Are you going to enjoy what you are doing? Don’t get me wrong I’m certainly not a quitter nor do I recommend it. But I would say if you know you are not enjoying it or won’t be, discuss this from early with management or maybe look for another role. Entering the working world can be overwhelming so with the right support and role it can a very rewarding life. Speak to those in your industry or talk with career advisors should you not know what you want to do. There are so many avenues and only you can decide which one you want to take. So get stuck in, learn, grow and enjoy every bit of it. Even the tough parts. Love, Your Archihooter, Natalie
